Liquid Glass interface is coming to WhatsApp’s Mac application

WhatsApp is working on a new interface to bring the Liquid Glass design, which it gradually introduced on the iPhone side, to the Mac application.

WhatsApp is working on a new interface to bring the Liquid Glass design, which it gradually introduced on the iPhone side, to the Mac application. In the version under development, the sidebar, chat writing area, additional menu and locked chats section are being rearranged. The change has not been made available to beta testers yet. The interface is changing in the WhatsApp Mac application. The new interface prepared for WhatsApp’s Mac application is compatible with the Liquid Glass design line that Apple uses with iOS 26 and macOS 26 Tahoe.

According to information shared by WABetaInfo, the feature is currently under development. For this reason, the new design is not even available in the beta version of WhatsApp. WhatsApp, under the umbrella of Meta, first tried the Liquid Glass design in limited tests on the iPhone application. After testing started with a small group of users in October, the new look was opened to a wider user base last month. Despite this, some users have not yet been able to access the new interface.

Liquid Glass elements on the iPhone side are seen in the top and bottom navigation bars, some sections on the chat screen, and with the iOS 26 keyboard. In the new version on the Mac side, the sidebar of the application is redesigned. In the current structure, there are only tab icons in the sidebar. The new interface includes text labels as well as icons. Thus, chats, calls, statuses and other sections are presented with a more prominent layout on the Mac screen.

WhatsApp maintains the basic layout of the chat list. Users continue to see their conversations in a structure close to the current layout. The change mainly takes place in the writing area on the chat screen, the additional menu and the visual elements compatible with Liquid Glass. The chat bar, context menus and buttons are brought into line with the new design language. The new Mac interface also includes a separate section for locked chats.

In the current Mac version, locked chats appear directly in the chat list. On the iPhone, these conversations are kept in a separate area protected by Face ID. In the new structure prepared by WhatsApp in the Mac application, a separate entry point is added to locked chats via the sidebar. User authentication is required to access this section. WhatsApp’s iPad and Mac applications are also included in the Liquid Glass design.

According to the information provided by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will combine the interface basis on iPhone, iPad and Mac in the same design line. Chat bar, context menus and buttons will be updated with the same design language on iOS, iPadOS and macOS. Liquid Glass support is currently not available in Mac and iPad versions. iPhone versions of WhatsApp Messenger and WhatsApp Business have started receiving the new design, but desktop and tablet versions continue to work with the old interface system.

The new interface prepared for the Mac application will be gradually offered to users after the testing process is completed. According to the information provided by 9to5Mac, similar design traces have begun to be seen in other applications of Meta. Over the weekend, some Threads users gained access to the Liquid Glass-like bottom navigation bar and iOS 26 keyboard. The change in WhatsApp’s Mac application was also recorded as part of the adaptation process to Apple’s new interface line in Meta applications.
