Dell renewed the XPS 13 model and introduced its new thin and light laptop, positioned opposite the MacBook Neo. The new XPS 13 goes on sale with a starting price of $599 for students and $699 for other users. The new XPS 13 is in the same segment as the MacBook Neo as a more affordable option on the Windows side but maintains its thin and light structure. According to the data announced by Dell, the new XPS 13 is 12.7 mm thick and weighs 2.2 pounds. This body structure makes the model the thinnest and lightest XPS 13 version to date. The device uses a CNC aluminum casing. While the XPS line is maintained on the design side, the model is offered in two different color options, Sky and Storm.
The US starting price of the new XPS 13 was announced as $ 599 for students and $ 699 for other users. The student price covers high school students aged 16 and over and students studying at degree-granting higher education institutions. According to Dell’s official announcement, this special student offer is only valid for XPS 13 models with Intel Core processors and does not include Core Ultra models. The base configuration includes an Intel Core Series 3 processor, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage.
In higher options, you can switch to Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. Up to 32 GB on the memory side and 1 TB on the storage side are offered. Dell will launch models with Core Ultra Series 3 processors and the Storm color option later in the summer. A 2.5K resolution IPS touch panel is used on the screen side. The screen comes with 120 Hz refresh rate and 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut support. Dell’s official announcement also includes information that the panel has a variable refresh rate between 30 Hz and 120 Hz.
This screen offers a higher refresh rate compared to the 60 Hz panel on the MacBook Neo. The new XPS 13 has a backlit keyboard as standard. The device has four speakers, Wi-Fi 7 support, Windows Hello supported internal camera and two USB-C ports. According to the information provided by Engadget, these connections are in the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 standard. The device does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Clear information was not shared as to whether an adapter would be included in the box.
On the cooling side, the XPS 13 comes with a dual-fan structure. One of the main differences between the two models is that MacBook Neo has a fanless design. Dell chose a Windows laptop with an Intel processor in a thin body using active cooling in the XPS 13. According to Dell’s statement, the XPS 13 model with an Intel Core Series 3 processor will be on sale soon. Higher-equipped Core Ultra Series 3 processor versions and the Storm color option will come to the market later in the summer.
