Navantia announced that it held the keel laying ceremony of the seventh corvette built for the Royal Saudi Navy at the San Fernando shipyard in Spain. According to the statement released by the company, the ship with the construction number 576 will be named HMS NEOM. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Navantia program teams and Royal Saudi Navy personnel. Navantia stated that with this important threshold, the first block of the second corvette of the current series of three ships has been placed on the slipway.
The company also announced that the first ships of the series, HMS Al-Madinah and HMS NEOM, are preparing to be launched in the coming months. The last ship is planned to be delivered in 2029. Navantia stated that the first ship will be delivered directly by the company, while the second and third ships will be completed in Saudi Arabia. This process; It will also include the installation, integration and testing of the combat system.
The contract also includes: Integrated logistics support package. Crew training. Operational evaluation process to be carried out by the Spanish Navy at Rota Naval Base. Additionally, Navantia said it will train approximately 100 Saudi engineers under the Industrial Participation Agreement associated with the program. According to the company, the total contract represents approximately 4 million work hours in the Gulf of Cádiz region of Spain and is expected to create up to 2,000 jobs, including direct, indirect and triggered employment.
