It has been reported that with the iOS 27 update, Apple will offer a more customizable interface in the Camera application and new editing tools supported by Apple Intelligence in the Photos application. In the new version, users are expected to be able to choose which controls will appear in the Camera interface and where these controls will be located. On the Photos side, the focus is on three new artificial intelligence-supported tools called Extend, Enhance and Reframe.
iOS 27 will renew the Camera and Photos applications. Most of the claims about iOS 27 to date have focused on Apple Intelligence, Siri and performance. New information shows that Apple is preparing more visible changes in the Camera and Photos applications. New customization options are added to the redesigned Camera interface with iOS 26. In the current Camera application, the interface works largely in a fixed structure.
Most of the controls appear on the screen only when necessary, while other options are located in menus. With iOS 27, users will be able to choose whether and where controls such as flash, exposure, timer and resolution will appear in the interface. Innovations in the camera application will not only be limited to the control layout. It is reported that Apple will add more advanced camera options to the application. It is stated that the control toggle currently located at the top right will also be moved to the right of the shutter button.
This change will also change the basic usage pattern of the application on the shooting screen. Important innovations are also expected on the Visual Intelligence side with iOS 27. It is stated that Apple will integrate the Visual Intelligence feature into the Camera application through a new Siri mode. Today, Visual Intelligence is positioned as a separate experience accessed through Camera Control. Users can add this feature to the Control Center or assign it to the Action Button.
It is reported that in the new version, the feature will be used more directly within the Camera application. New usage areas for Visual Intelligence are also on the agenda. With iOS 27, it is expected that nutritional labels on food products will be scanned and added to the food and beverage record, and a new person will be quickly created by scanning contact information from sources such as business cards. In the Photos application, three new Apple Intelligence-supported editing tools are added to the Clean Up tool that comes with iOS 18.
These tools are called Extend, Enhance and Reframe. Extend will be used to produce new content outside the existing frame of the photo. This function will offer an editing flow similar to the generative fill logic in Photoshop. The Enhance tool will make automatic improvements to color, lighting and overall image quality. Reframe will come into play especially for spatial photographs and will help change the perspective after the photo is taken.
However, there are some uncertainties in the development process for the Extend and Reframe tools. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, these two features do not work reliably at this stage. For this reason, it is possible that the vehicles will not be shown at WWDC 2026, will be left to later developer betas, or will be postponed to intermediate versions such as iOS 27.1. Apple is expected to announce iOS 27 within the scope of WWDC 2026.
It will become clear at the event whether the company will show the innovations in the Camera, Visual Intelligence and Photos applications at the same time or leave some features to later beta versions.
