Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 games may be preparing to meet the players in their renewed form. The Dungeons and Dragons universe, one of the most established and respected series in the gaming world, is preparing to crown the immense popularity it has achieved in recent years by opening the dusty pages of the past. According to the latest information leaked by PC Gamer, which keeps the pulse of the industry, Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has rolled up its sleeves to take players to the iconic Sword Coast, where swords and magic are always present.
Although the fourth sequel of the series is an inevitable reality, it has become clear that the studio’s primary plan is to resurrect the original productions by BioWare. In this regard, Baldur’s Gate 2, which is considered one of the best RPG (Role Playing Game) examples in the history of gaming, is returning to the gaming world with a remake project that will be built from scratch with modern technologies. This move, which will bring the epic atmosphere of the Bhaalspawn story to modern players, has already created a great wave of excitement, especially among the older generation of hardcore role-playing enthusiasts.
Legendary Designer Kevin Martens Returned Home One of the most striking details leaked about the development process is that former BioWare veteran and Baldur’s Gate 2 co-lead designer Kevin Martens, who was in the kitchen of the original game, has returned to the team to take the helm of this major project. Martens, who played critical design roles in masterpieces that shaped the gaming world such as Jade Empire, Throne of Bhaal, Neverwinter Nights and Mass Effect, left BioWare in 2009 and joined Blizzard and served as the chief content designer of Diablo 3.
The experienced name had already crossed paths with WotC on the occasion of the science fiction project Exodus under Archetype Entertainment, a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast. Sources close to the project state that Martens directly leads the development processes of this new project. Considering that the first two games of the series are directly connected to each other in terms of story, it is estimated that the studio will develop not only the second game but also the first two cult productions simultaneously and will probably release them as a joint package.
Hundreds of Hours of Adventure in the Streets of Athkatla and the Underdark Original games Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2, each with hundreds of hours of desktop adventure Hasbro’s New Strategy and Future Plans It is not surprising that Hasbro, the umbrella company of Wizards of the Coast, wants to commercially continue the global and historical success of the third game. The company has recently been under financial criticism for parting ways with most of the team that had a share in this huge success and canceling its joint project with the Giant Skull studio.
While building a fourth game completely from scratch requires a huge amount of work that will take years; With its ready-made stories, unforgettable characters and perfect mission designs, the Baldur’s Gate 2 adaptation stands out as a much more logical and safe haven for the company on paper. Considering that it took the Virtuos studio nearly four years to implement a remake project of a similar size, it must be admitted that our return to the Forgotten Realms may still be a few years away.
While Hasbro refuses to give an official release date for now, Kevin Martens continues to remain silent.
