TIRANA (AA) – Demonstrations against the planned tourism project in the Zvernec region of Vlora (Vlora) in Tirana, the capital of Albania, continue for the 7th day. As in previous days, thousands of demonstrators gathered in Skanderbeg Square in Tirana today to protest the sale of a beach in Zvernec within the scope of a tourism project allegedly linked to US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Demonstrators carrying banners and signs saying “Albania is not for sale” first walked to the Nation Martyrs Boulevard and then to the Prime Ministry building. During the protest, the participants stated that they were against the construction activities carried out in the protected areas and chanted slogans: “Albania is ours.” Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his post on his social media account after the demonstrations, claimed that 2 thousand people participated in today’s demonstrations and that this was the lowest participation rate ever, while the highest participation was 8 thousand.
At noon, a protest demonstration was held in Milan, Italy, to protect the areas where tourism facilities are planned to be built in Albania. – Prime Minister Rama rejected the allegations that the project belonged to the Trump family. In the news in the Albanian press, it was reported that the Albanian Special Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the project in question. In his statement to CNN, Rama rejected the allegations that the project in Zvernec belonged to the Trump family.
In addition, on the 4th day of the demonstrations, which started on May 30 and attended by thousands of people, the police intervened with pressurized water against the demonstrators. While it is stated that the cost of the project, which is said to be linked to Kushner, will be approximately 4 billion dollars, demonstrators emphasize that the protests will continue.
