WhatsApp is testing its new feature on Android, which will allow users to log out without deleting the application or closing the account. With the new option, chat history, notification settings, local data and login information will be preserved on the device. WhatsApp is testing the log out button. WhatsApp is adding the log out option to the application, which has been requested by users for a long time. The feature, seen in WhatsApp beta 2.26.21.9 released for Android, allows users to temporarily separate their accounts from the device.
During this process, there is no need to uninstall the application, delete the account or lose the chat history. Until today, there was no direct exit option in WhatsApp. When users wanted to move away from the application, they usually uninstalled WhatsApp from the phone, then reinstalled it and set up the account from the beginning. In this process, steps such as phone number verification, backup control and chat history restoration came into play again.
The new log out option makes this process shorter. When the user logs out, the chat history remains on the device. The data that WhatsApp keeps locally is protected. Login information for the account is also stored without being completely removed from the device. When the user logs in later, they can access the application without returning to the full installation process. The feature is located in the Account settings section of the application.
When the user taps on the “Sign out” option, WhatsApp first shows a confirmation screen. After approval, the account disconnects from the device. On the other hand, chats, application data and access information are kept on the device. WhatsApp also offers different suggestions to the user before logging out. The application reminds that in some cases, multi-account support can be used instead of logging out. WhatsApp currently allows two accounts to be used on the same device.
This feature allows users who want to switch between different numbers to change accounts without logging out. The application also highlights the application lock option for privacy. The application lock, which works with fingerprint, facial recognition or device password, allows users who share the phone with others to protect their chats. This option is offered especially for users who want to limit WhatsApp access without closing the account or logging out.
WhatsApp also offers the option to edit notification settings for users who want to stay away from notifications. Users can mute certain conversations, change how notifications appear, and control in-app alerts. Showing these alternatives on the logout screen allows the user to review the current settings before detaching the account from the device. Storage management is also reminded on the new screen. For users who want to free up space on the device, WhatsApp offers tools that allow managing large files, media content and data accumulated in chats.
This section allows users who want to clear the storage space without uninstalling the application to go directly to the settings. WhatsApp also reminds the user about chat backups during the exit process. Although the new feature protects local data on the device, the chat backup maintains its place as a separate security layer for situations such as device replacement, software error or data loss. Therefore, the sign out option does not replace the backup system.
The sign out feature is currently being tested with some Android beta users. WhatsApp beta 2.26.21.9 version is among the versions that support this feature. Some users may see the same option in previous beta versions. The feature is expected to be rolled out to more beta users in the coming weeks.
