A new study published on hair extensions and hair extension products used for hair extension and volume has revealed remarkable findings in terms of health. In the study published in the scientific publication of the American Chemical Society, many harmful chemical components were identified in some hair extension products widely used in the market. Within the scope of the research, wigs, braided hair, clip-in hair and hair extension products were examined.
It was reported that approximately 50 chemicals were found in different categories of products produced from synthetic and human hair. It was reported that some of the components detected in the study may have an effect on the hormonal system, harm reproductive health and are among the substances associated with breast cancer. Experts pointed out that keeping these products in contact with the scalp and neck area for a long time may increase the risk.
One of the researchers of the research, Dr. Elissia Franklin stated that consumers trust manufacturers regarding content safety and that hair supplement products come into direct contact with the skin for weeks or even months. While the research emphasized the possible effects of regular use, it was noted that product contents should be inspected more transparently. Sector-related data show that the growth in the hair extensions and hair extensions market continues.
It was stated that the global market volume is expected to exceed 14 billion dollars by 2028.
