Digitest Board Member Erdem Erseven gave important information about the company’s new generation air defense system GATREX. Erseven stated that they are a 25-year-old well-established company and emphasized that they have a wide range of products in the defense industry. Erseven compared GATREX to a “tower in the air” and explained the operation of the system with the following words: “We have a six-barreled 7.62 heavy machine gun on it.
We interpret this product as a tower in the air. The system underneath acts like a turret, and it has its own drone on top. This turret can be deployed to the desired location and can take off itself and function according to emergency scenarios, either carrying the load or carrying the pilot.” Referring to the technical features of 2.5 kilometers altitude and hybrid engine GATREX, Erseven stated that the system can reach an altitude of 2.5 kilometers and has a hybrid engine structure: “We have both a generator engine and an electric engine.
This gives us longer driving time and higher power. In this way, we have a high capacity of 150 kilograms.” Preventive capability against the drone threat Pointing out that the course of new types of wars has changed, Erseven said that GATREX can destroy enemy drones before they even approach the target area: “Drones are now coming from higher altitudes. Our goal is this: This device goes before the drones come to us, deploys itself in the air and acts like a castle.
“It receives information from our radars on the ground and can destroy the drone in the air before it can get close.” Stating that the system is not limited to the hard kill solution, Erseven made the following additions: “There are drones that we can deploy on the side. When there is a threat of drones swarming in the air, these drones can abandon themselves and go to the target in places where weapons are insufficient.
“If we want, we can also place mortars as air support.” The operational distance increases with the auxiliary drone. Erseven also stated that they increased the operational distance with the Starlink drone: “Our Starlink drone acts as a satellite to increase our operational distance. “With this drone in the air, we can increase our distance to the operation area.” Stating that GATREX is equipped with a magazine with a capacity of 3 thousand bullets, Erseven said that the project was developed with the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and other institutions in line with the vision of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Referring to the testing processes, Erseven concluded his words as follows: “The qualification tests of our weapon are over. “We think this system will enter the inventory within a few months.”
