Famous announcer and journalist Reha Muhtar, who left her mark on an era, died at the age of 66 in the hospital where she was treated in Bodrum. The famous journalist, who was taken to a hospital in the district after falling ill on May 30 and diagnosed with heart failure, could not be saved despite all the interventions of the doctors. The news of Muhtar’s death, who was learned to have died at midnight in the intensive care unit where he was treated, devastated his loved ones.
WHO IS REHA MUHTAR? Turkish television producer, commentator and news presenter Reha Muhtar spent the winter months in Ankara and the summer months in Istanbul because her father, originally from Kirkuk and Iraqi Turkmen, worked as a lecturer in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography. The famous journalist, who completed his primary, secondary and high school education at TED Ankara College, completed his higher education at Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, School of Press and Broadcasting and graduated.
Muhtar started journalism in 1980. He worked as a foreign policy and politics correspondent in the Ankara Bureau of Milliyet newspaper, which he joined in 1981. Muhtar, who later moved to TRT, worked as a TRT reporter in Athens, Greece. In 1991, he started preparing Fire Line, which was similar to CNN International’s Crossfire program. He left TRT in 1993 and moved to Kanal D. After Kanal D was sold in 1994, he left the channel and returned to TRT.
Muhtar, who left TRT in 1995 and moved to Star TV, soon left this channel and returned to Kanal D. In 1996, he left Kanal D and moved to Show TV and took on the duties of main news presenter and news editor-in-chief. The journalist, who increased his popularity significantly during this period and became known throughout the country, moved to ATV in 2004, served as a jury member in the Academy Türkiye competition and started writing for Sabah newspaper.
HE LED A LIFE AWAY FROM SIGHTS Muhtar, who left Ciner Media Group in 2006, presented the program Pişti with Metin Uca on Show TV. However, when the program was taken off the air in the same year, he left Show TV and started writing for Vatan newspaper. Muhtar, who moved to FOX in 2007 and presented the Çapraz Ateş program, left the channel after the program ended. After preparing and presenting the program Very Different on CNN Türk in 2009, he took part in the program called Son Kale on Kanal Türk with Erman Toroğlu and Ahmet Çakar.
Muhtar last left Vatan newspaper in November 2016. Afterwards, he lived a secluded life for a while.
