The future of this massive production, which airs on the Prime Video channel and takes viewers into the depths of the Second Age, is being reshaped under the new leadership structure of Amazon MGM Studios.
According to industry analyses, it is now certain that the series will complete the initially targeted five-season story arc. The Rise of Sauron and Preparations for the Third Season After the series’ highly anticipated third season approval was given in February 2025, the shooting process started in May of the same year. It is known that the focus of the story in the new season will be Sauron’s quest to forge the One Ring and his effort to consolidate his dark domination over Middle Earth.
The Rings of Power production team, which completed the set works in London as of December 2025, is currently sweating in the post-production phase. Although an official premiere date has not been announced yet, considering Amazon’s strategy of releasing a new season every two years, the adventurous episodes are expected to meet the audience in 2026. Budget Discussions and Jeff Bezos’ Support The series, which has received mixed reviews since its debut in 2022 and has been astounding with its cost, is on its way to becoming the first television show to exceed the $ 1 billion mark when global rights, production and marketing expenses are included.
However, despite this huge cost, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ unwavering support for the project continues. Industry insiders confirm that the series is under Bezos’ “protective halo” and has been given the green light to complete the artistic vision despite the financial risks. Five-Season Contract and Cancellation Fee According to the report by Lesley Goldberg published by The Ankler, Amazon’s original agreement with the Tolkien Estate, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema includes a five-season commitment consisting of 50 episodes for The Rings of Power series.
It is stated that if Amazon abandons this plan, it will have to pay a “kill fee” of approximately 20 million dollars to the Tolkien Estate for each season that is not shot. This shows that completing the series is the most economically logical way. Viewing Rates and Status of Side Projects Although only 7 percent of the viewers in the USA watched the series until the end in the first season, this rate increased to 1 percent in the international arena.
