Illegal Gold Mine Collapsed in Angola: 28 People Lost Their Lives

At least 28 people lost their lives in the collapse that occurred in the illegal gold mine operating in Angola's Bengo province.

A landslide that occurred in an unlicensed gold mine in the Bengo province in northern Angola caused a major disaster. Authorities announced that at least 28 people died and two people were missing due to the collapse. It was reported that the incident took place in the Nambuangongo region, northeast of the capital Luanda. It was stated that many workers were in the area when the collapse occurred in the illegally operated mine site.

Gaspar Luis Inacio, who made a statement on behalf of the Angolan police, stated that there were 13 people from the same family among those who lost their lives. Authorities announced that search and rescue efforts are continuing to reach people who may be trapped under the rubble. Bengo Central Hospital Health Officer Francisco Rodrigues announced that at least three people injured in the incident were treated. Rodrigues noted that the patients were conscious and their health conditions were stable.

Authorities stated that there was no situation that required the injured to be transferred to other health centers. An official statement has not yet been made regarding whether an investigation has been launched into the incident.
