Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) published Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for May 2026. According to the announced data, consumer prices increased by 1.71 percent in May compared to the previous month. Annual inflation was recorded as 32.61 percent. With the May data, the inflation outlook for the first five months of the year became clear. While the monthly inflation increase, which was 4.18 percent in April, occurred at a more limited level in May, the annual inflation rate increased from 32.37 percent to 32.61 percent.

According to TÜİK data, monthly inflation rates in the first five months of 2026 were as follows: January 2026: 4.84% monthly | 0.65 per annum February 2026: 2.96% per month | 1.53% annually March 2026: 1.94% monthly | 0.84% annually April 2026: 4.18% monthly | 2.37% annually May 2026: 1.71% monthly | Annual 2.61 Data revealed that inflation continues to remain above 30 percent on an annual basis as the first half of the year approaches.

Inflation data is important in terms of salary increases. May inflation figures are among the determining indicators in calculating the salary increases that millions of civil servants, retired civil servants, SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees will receive in July. Inflation Research Group (ENAG) calculated monthly inflation as 2.16 percent and annual inflation as 53.13 percent in May. According to the Istanbul Retail Price Index data published by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), the monthly price increase in May was 1.53 percent and the annual increase rate was 36.77 percent.
