Apple has released iOS 26.5.1 update for iPhone users. The new version is not a comprehensive update distributed for all iPhone models. iOS 26.5.1 focuses on the wired charging problem seen in the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air models. This error could cause wired charging to not start when the battery level was almost completely exhausted on the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models.
The update can be downloaded from the Settings, General and Software Update menu. Distribution of iOS 26.5.1 is limited to iPhone 17 models and iPhone Air. The current iOS version for models from iPhone 11 to iPhone 16e is iOS 26.5. Apple has not announced any new features for iOS 26.5.1. The release notes only include a fix for the wired charging issue. There is no CVE record published for iOS 26.5.1 on Apple’s security updates page.
iOS 26.5 was released for iPhone users last month. In that version, end-to-end encrypted RCS support was added in beta to the Messages application, Pride Luminance wallpaper was made available for download, and the suggested places feature on Apple Maps was introduced. While Apple continues its work on iOS 26, it is also testing iOS 26.6 in the beta process. The company is expected to introduce iOS 27 as part of WWDC 2026.
iOS 26.5.1 was released as an interim version that focused on the low battery level wired charging error seen on certain devices rather than new features.
