WhatsApp has launched a new address book integration for beta users on the Android platform. As part of the update, photos of people saved in the device’s contact list will be displayed instead of people who do not have a profile photo. The feature, which works without the need for users to make any additional settings, contributes to making chat screens look more organized, especially for users with a large contact list. The system is not limited to accounts that do not have a profile photo. When a person’s profile photo cannot be viewed due to privacy preferences, the application can show the photo saved in the device’s contact list.
A Previously Used Feature is on the Agenda Again It is known that WhatsApp has offered a similar function in the past. However, the feature in question was later removed from the application. The company did not share an official statement regarding the reason for the removal. With the last beta update, the feature of using contact photos has been reintroduced into the application. This change aims to help users faster recognize accounts that do not have a profile photo or are inaccessible.
How will privacy and data security be ensured? According to the information provided by WhatsApp, the feature works entirely on the device. While the images used are taken only from the user’s phone book, these photos are not uploaded to any server or shared with other users. Thus, the photo of a person registered in the contact list can only be viewed on the relevant device. Additionally, this process does not create any changes in the other party’s WhatsApp profile photo.
