Birsu Demir, known for her character ‘Oben’ in the TV series Alemin Kıralı, talked about the incident she experienced on the set of a TV series years later. Demir said that they were kept outside the caravan with the other actors in bad weather conditions due to the request of the leading actor. “WE WERE WAITED IN THE COLD” Stating that the incident took place on a day when adverse weather conditions were effective, the actor stated that there was only one caravan on the set and that they shared this area with other actors.
Saying that they understood the situation, Demir explained the process with the following words: “There was only one caravan that day. They said, ‘Can you handle it for a while?’, and we agreed. However, the leading actor said, ‘I want to sit alone in the caravan. I am the leading man.’ Upon this arbitrary request, they made five or six people wait in front of the caravan in the rain, mud and cold.” “YOU CAN’T GET AWAY FOR ANY EVIL YOU DO” Stating that such behavior does not go unrequited in the industry, Birsu Demir also referred to the current career of the leading actor in question.
Demir said, “You can’t get away with anything bad you do. You don’t see that person on any television channel right now.” The actor’s statements, made anonymously, brought the discussions about working conditions in the TV series and cinema industry and equality between actors back to the agenda. Birsu Demir has previously appeared in many projects such as Şefkat Tepe, Türkan, Kara Yılan, Genco and Zaman Makinesi 1973.
