While Spaceballs, one of the most iconic science fiction parodies in cinema history, is preparing to return after 39 years, the name of the sequel that fans have been eagerly awaiting has been officially announced as Spaceballs: The New One. We had previously stated in our news that this might be the name, and the information we received was correct. In the original 1987 movie, the wise character Yogurt (Mel Brooks) said goodbye to Lone Starr and his friends by saying, “With any luck, we’ll see you again in Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.” Moviegoers, who have been waiting for decades for this joke to come true, witnessed Yogurt’s prophecy finally come true – albeit with a small name change – at the Amazon MGM Studios panel held at CinemaCon.

One of the most striking moments of the panel was the appearance on stage of master actor Rick Moranis, who had been away from the screens for a long time. While Moranis received a standing ovation from the audience for several minutes, it was confirmed that Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga and George Wyner, from the original cast, were also included in the project. Huge Cast and New Faces Mel Brooks is both the producer and reprises his roles as Yogurt and President Skroob in this new adventure.
The new names added to the original cast bring a fresh breath to the project. Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan and Bill Pullman’s real-life son Lewis Pullman will appear as the new heroes or villains of the galaxy. In addition to acting, Josh Gad wrote the script of the film together with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Director Josh Greenbaum stated that it was the honor of his life to make a sequel to such a “comedy masterpiece”.
Humor and Satire Continue Unabated Although the subject of the film is kept a secret for now, the first images released prove that the parody tradition will not be broken. In the preview, in addition to the scenes in which Mel Brooks was seen in his iconic Yoda make-up, the scenes in which a Na’vi character straight out of the Avatar movie stood at the urinal side by side with Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) made the audience laugh.
The production of the film is humorously described as “an accident resulting from the haphazard merger of Hollywood studios.” Additionally, the genre of the film is jokingly described by the producers as “Non-Prequel, Non-Reboot, A Sequel Part Two and Franchise Expansion Film with Reboot Elements.” Release Date and Expectations Josh Gad announced that the shooting was completed last December. Amazon MGM Studios has set the film’s worldwide release date as April 23, 2027.
The legacy of the original film, which poked fun at classics such as Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Alien, will probably target current science fiction universes (Marvel, Avatar, Dune, etc.) in this new installment.
