Within the scope of the drug investigation carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Smuggling, Narcotics and Economic Crimes Investigation Bureau, operations were carried out by the teams of the Istanbul Police Department’s Anti-Narcotic Crimes Branch Directorate and the Organized Crimes Branch Directorate. 13 SUSPECTS WERE ARRESTED During these operations, 13 suspects, including former football player Ümit Karan, were arrested and sent to prison by the court for the crimes of drug dealing, facilitating drug use, encouraging prostitution, mediating prostitution and providing places for prostitution.

HE WAS RELEASED ON THE CONDITION OF JUDICIAL CONTROL. In the indictment prepared against Karan, a prison sentence of up to 10 years was requested for drug trafficking. While the first hearing of the case filed against Karan was held today at Çağlayan Courthouse, the former football player appeared before the judge for the first time and his defense was taken. The court committee, which listened to the statements of the parties at the hearing, decided to release Karan by applying a judicial control measure in the form of a travel ban.
