ERZURUM (AA) – İLHAMİ ERKILIÇ – 65-year-old Meryem Sari, who has been receiving home dialysis treatment for 10 years in Erzurum, is experiencing the joy of regaining her health with a kidney transplanted from a cadaver and getting rid of the dialysis device to which she has been connected for years. Sari, a mother of 6 children from Erzurum and living on a home dialysis device due to kidney failure, applied to Erzurum Atatürk University Organ Transplantation Training Research and Application Center for a kidney transplant.
Sari, whose husband’s kidney was not suitable for transplantation, kept her hope of fulfilling her biggest dream, the pilgrimage, while waiting for a suitable donor for years. Sari, who was very happy with the news that came from the center about a month ago, received the news that a cadaver kidney was found in Giresun, which was considered to be suitable for him. As a result of the examinations, it was determined that the kidney taken from the cadaver was suitable for transplantation, and Sari was taken into surgery.
Director of the Center Assoc. Dr. Sari, who had a kidney transplanted with a successful operation performed by the team headed by Necip Altundaş, is experiencing the joy of regaining her health and getting rid of the dialysis device to which she has been connected for years. – “Our Aunt Mary is very good” Dr. working at the Organ Transplantation Center. Lecturer Member Tarık Recep Kantarcı told the AA correspondent that Sari, who has chronic kidney failure, is receiving peritoneal dialysis treatment and this limits her life.
Stating that the relatives of a brain dead patient in Giresun donated organs on May 3, Kantarcı said, “Two kidneys removed from the brain dead patient were given to our center, and we performed a kidney transplant to our aunt Meryem and one other person on the same night. Our aunt Meryem is very well.” he said. Kantarcı stated that there are many patients waiting for organ transplantation and that with organ transplantation, patients can hold on to life and achieve their dreams.
Pointing out the importance of cadaveric organ donation, Kantarcı said, “In a cadaveric donation, the heart, kidneys and sometimes the liver are divided into two, providing hope for approximately 4-5 patients. But unfortunately, cadaveric donations are very low. We are in a very good position technically, surgically and academically. We wish that brain-dead patients could donate their organs and give the gift of life to people they have never met.” he said.
– “Organ transplantation was a consolation” Sari, who received an organ transplant, stated that she was diagnosed with kidney failure at the hospital where she applied 10 years ago due to swelling in her feet and various ailments. Explaining that she could not get results from drug treatment, Sari said, “I have been receiving peritoneal dialysis at home for 10 years. I could not go anywhere, I was constantly connected to the machine.
May God be pleased with the organ donor, may the deceased rest in peace and be neighbors to our prophet.” he said. Sari stated that she did not allow her children who wanted to donate their kidneys to her because they were young. The transplant was made by Assoc. Dr. Thanking Altundaş and his team, Sari said: “I have been waiting for an organ transplant for 10 years, they called me and I came. I am better now. I have lived with the dream of going on a pilgrimage for years, but I was very upset if there was a lottery for the pilgrimage, if they did not take me because I have a kidney disease, or if I could not go.
If the pilgrimage comes from now on, I can go there easily with God’s permission, organ transplantation has been my consolation.” Sari said that she is free from the dialysis machine and her eating and drinking have improved. Stating that she regained her health with the organ transplant and experienced a double holiday, Sari said, “It was a very long and difficult process, but this holiday was auspicious, I feel like I was born.
I will recite the hatim to the organ donor, do charity and pray constantly. May God put him in paradise, let them keep people alive instead of his organs turning into soil and rotting.” he said.
