In Bitlis, Green Crescent teams go door to door and raise awareness of families about addiction

BİTLİS (AA) – ŞENER TOKTAŞ – Staff and volunteers at the Green Crescent Branch in Bitlis inform families about the types of addiction by going door to door. Aiming to raise awareness about the fight against addiction with the motto “Independence Mobilization”, Green Crescent staff and teams of volunteers travel around the neighborhoods and meet with families. The teams, who continue their work at the Green Crescent Counseling Center (YEDAM) and in the field, provide information to the families they visit about cigarette, drug, alcohol, gambling and technology addiction.

Finally, the Green Crescent team visited houses in Hersan District and communicated one-on-one with the families and explained the harms of addiction, prevention methods and ways to get support. Aiming to support families in protecting their children from the negative effects of addiction, the teams aim to reach more families by continuing their visits for a healthy future. – “The interest and support of the citizens made us very happy.” Green Crescent Branch Manager Selmin Köysu Kalkan told the AA correspondent that the Green Crescent, which encourages healthy living, is trying to raise social awareness by fighting addictions.

Stating that the Green Crescent aims to reach all age groups by carrying out trainings, events and social projects against alcohol, tobacco, substance, gambling and technology addiction, Kalkan said, “YEDAM is a counseling center that offers free psychological and social support to individuals struggling with addictions and their families. Expert psychologists and social workers and counselors support people to step into a healthy life.” he said.

Explaining that they came together with citizens and distributed brochures during field studies, Kalkan said: “We provided information about the work of Green Crescent and YEDAM. We will continue to raise awareness for a healthy and conscious society. Despite the adverse weather conditions, we distributed brochures door to door. We were very happy with the interest and support of the citizens in our work aimed at raising awareness about the fight against addictions in the society.

We will continue to work actively in the field for healthy generations and a conscious society.”
