EDİRNE – Preparations for the 665th Historical Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling, which will be held in Edirne between 3-5 July, continue. Edirne Mayor Filiz Gencan, in her statement at the meeting held at the municipality, stated that Kırkpınar is the largest organization of the city. Stating that the preparation works continue throughout the year, Gencan said that the organization hosts more visitors every year. Stating that they started preparations for the next year after the end of Kırkpınar, Filiz Gencan stated that they held many meetings with Kırkpınar Ağa Ufuk Özünlü throughout the process.
Stating that there was damage in Sarayiçi Er Square due to the flood that occurred a while ago, Gencan said, “We have made our determinations. We will speed up the work here. Physical conditions are important. It is important for us to have our wrestlers in comfortable areas and to host our guests in the best environment.” he said. Filiz Gencan noted that the new Kırkpınar Er Square Project will be carried out in line with the common sense of the city.
Kırkpınar Ağa Ufuk Özünlü said that efforts are continuing to carry out the organization in the best possible way. Touching on the importance of promoting Kırkpınar internationally, Özünlü stated that they have taken various steps in this regard. Stating that he is ready to support Kırkpınar Er Square, which is on the agenda to be moved within the scope of the Edirne Palace Rejuvenation Project, Özünlü said, “I am not the decision-making authority on the stadium.
How can we do the best if the current place will remain, how can we contribute to it if a new stadium is to be built… This is my point of view. We will try to do the best for Kırkpınar and Edirne.” he said.
