ANKARA (AA) – Ahmet Kaplan reached the final of the French Open (Roland Garros), the second grand slam tennis tournament of the season, in which he participated in the quad wheelchair category. World number 5 Ahmet faced number 1 seed Sam Schroder from the Netherlands in the quad wheelchair singles semi-final match in the tournament held in the capital Paris. Ahmet defeated his opponent, who has 7 championships in major tournaments, 2-1 (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) in 2 hours and 24 minutes and reached the first grand slam final of his career in singles.
24-year-old Ahmet became the first Turkish athlete to reach the grand slam final in singles in wheelchair tennis. The national para tennis player will face the number 2 seed Niels Vink from the Netherlands, who has won 8 grand slams, including two at Roland Garros (2022, 2023), in the final.
