ISTANBUL (AA) – Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş said that the Herkadaş Workshop and Museum Explorers Project, launched in Istanbul, brings children together with museums, workshops, culture, art and science. Speaking at the Herkadaş Workshop and Museum Explorers Certificate Ceremony held at the Sepetciler Pavilion in Fatih, Minister Göktaş said that they shared the joy of a meaningful work that will leave a mark on the hearts of children.
Stating that a child’s world grows with every place he sees, every story he hears and every work he touches, Göktaş said, “An old object he encounters in a museum teaches him to connect with the past. A small work he does in a workshop makes him realize his own talent. The question he asks while looking at a work of art expands his horizon of thinking.” made his assessment. Stating that culture, art, history and science for children are not limited to books, Göktaş said, “They enable the child to know himself, make sense of the civilization he belongs to and look to the future with more confidence.
We want each of our children, who are under the protection of our state, to feel valuable, strong and safe.” We care about each of our children owning their own story with confidence and growing old feeling like they are a very valuable member of our big Turkish family.” he said. Emphasizing that the sense of belonging is an invisible but very strong point of support for the child, Göktaş said, “When the child can say, ‘I am a child of this country, this culture is mine, this history is mine, this heritage is mine.’, he holds on to life more confidently.” I find this aspect of the Herkadaş Workshop and Museum Explorers Project really valuable.
This project brought our children together with museums, workshops, culture, art and science. “When I saw your works, when I talked to you, when I saw the light of your eyes and the way you expressed yourself, I got very excited and proud of you.” he said. Stating that this pilot project, which they started in Istanbul, should be spread throughout the province soon and then to Turkey with a protocol, Göktaş said, “We believe that each child is a seed planted in this land.
As long as they grow, we know that we will live in peace under the shadow of the Turkish plane tree. Every child is special, every child is precious, and has a unique potential to find their own path with the right support. For this reason, we attach great importance to our children’s cultural, social and especially artistic development, as well as their care, education and psychosocial support needs. “There are many studies we carry out in this context.” he said.
Minister Göktaş said, “We continue our work with service models based on the best interests of the child. We carry out many studies to ensure that our children receive support from their families through our social and economic support programs. My colleagues are not just employees or civil servants of this ministry. They truly create a special bond with children in the organizations they are affiliated with. Our children grow up with the love of brother and sister, mother and child.
We clearly see that with this kind of support coming from outside, we can carry the inner gem of our children to much different places.” he said. Noting that they enable children to prepare for life with love, trust and a sense of belonging through foster family services, Göktaş stated that the Voluntary Ambassadors Project, which they have been carrying out since 2012 under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has turned into a volunteer mobilization that is taken as an example in many countries today.
Stating that the most valuable result of all the services provided is each child’s success, joy and looking at life with hope, Göktaş addressed the children participating in the program as follows: “During the project, you visited museums, acquired new information, discovered your new talents, participated in workshops and gained new skills. Most importantly, you learned to be curious and realized how beautiful it is to ask and discover.
Remember, the child who is curious learns. The child who learns becomes stronger. The child who knows his culture, history and abilities looks to the future with more confidence. Inside each of you.” There is a completely different light. We will continue to be with you with great effort to help that light grow. Never stop asking, learning and dreaming.” – “We brought scientists and children together” Sümeyye Ceylan, President of the Education Foundation for Every Child (HERÇEV), said that they set out with the Ministry of Family and Social Services to carry children into the future by using science, art and cultural heritage to see how they can become better, more talented adults.
Stating that she founded HERÇEV by joining the forces of 16 women, Ceylan stated that education is the right of every child, without any discrimination, and that every child carries a gem waiting to be discovered inside. Ceylan noted that they set out with the children staying in Kasımpaşa Oya Kayacık and Üsküdar Hasan Tan children’s homes for the Herkadaş Workshop and Museum Explorers Project. Underlining that the project was implemented as a pilot this year, Ceylan said, “Our children received lessons for 72 hours, 12 weeks.
“We brought together highly qualified science and art educators, artists and scientists with many years of experience, and they produced works.” he said. Ceylan added that he thanked everyone who contributed to the program. – Notes from the program Minister Göktaş and HERÇEV President Ceylan visited the exhibition at the Sepetçiler Pavilion, which included the works prepared by the children participating in the Herkadaş Workshop and Museum Explorers program, before the ceremony.
After the program, Göktaş presented certificates to the instructors and students who took part in the project.
