AKSARAY (AA) – Chairman of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Türkiye (TZOB), Şemsi Bayraktar, made inspections in the agricultural areas affected by hail in Aksaray’s Sultanhanı district. Bayraktar visited the agricultural lands in Eskioba location of Sultanhanı district and received information from the producers. Bayraktar, who later made a statement to the press, said that such natural disasters negatively affect farmers.
Reminding that 1011 disasters occurred in 2025, Bayraktar said: Many of our products were damaged by these disasters. Last year, we faced frost disaster in 65 provinces. Apart from this, we experienced hail disasters and started to experience tornado disasters that we have not seen in recent years. In other words, unfortunately, there is no disaster that our farmers have not seen in the last few years. We would like to look at 2026 more positively in terms of disasters, we would like a better start.
The rains we have been waiting for have arrived. Let’s express this. In terms of rainfall regime, we received the most important rainfall of the last 150 years, abundant and fertile rainfall. This had an extremely positive impact on both grain production and yield. Our wheat harvest will reach approximately 23 million tons this year. On June 5, we faced a major hail disaster in our Sultanhanı district. According to current findings, our grain, sunflower and clover production has been damaged in an area of around 25 thousand decares.
We will take initiatives in Ankara to cover the damages as soon as possible. May God not let such a disaster happen again. I wish all our farmers to get well soon. Bayraktar stated that expectations for wheat and barley yields are high in the 2026 production period. Stating that the announced grain purchase prices are not at the desired level, Bayraktar said: Our producer was not satisfied with these prices. Therefore, we conveyed our demands in this sense.
The payment period is 45 days, we requested that this be reduced and a premium of around 3 lira be given to our producers and supported in this sense. Recently, the esteemed TMO General Manager stated that they reduced the maturity to 21 days. This is good. In other words, wheat money will be paid within 21 days. This is a positive development. Apart from this, we asked for a 3 lira premium. We conveyed this to both our Minister and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
We hear that work is being done on this issue. If this 3 lira is given to our farmers, our farmers will be relieved.
