KAYSERİ (AA) – ERGÜN HAKTANIYAN – Storks that build nests on electric poles in Hacılar district of Kayseri keep watch for their newly hatched babies. Storks, which nest in areas close to wetlands where migratory birds stay in Kayseri, have been among the indispensable guests of the residents of Hürmetçi District for many years. Every year, as the weather warms up, storks settle in their nests built on electric poles and roofs at the foot of Mount Erciyes.
Storks keep watch for eggs in their nests on electric poles, fly in turns to look for food, and then return to their nests. This year, as every year, storks are experiencing the rush of raising and raising their new babies, who have just joined their families, while the newly hatched chicks disperse the silence of the neighborhood with the sound they make. Storks teach their babies to fly, which they raise for about 6 months, and then leave the neighborhood to migrate to warmer regions.
Headman of Hürmetçi District, İbrahim Demir, told the AA correspondent that the storks they host every year are among the indispensable parts of the neighborhood. Stating that storks with their babies are found on every pole in the neighborhood, Demir said, “We have nests on nearly 40-50 electric poles in the neighborhood. We are also used to the sound of storks. It’s full breeding season. It also attracts the attention of our tourists.
he said. – Storks become the symbol of this place in this season. Demir pointed out that some of the electricity poles in the neighborhood were placed by Hacılar Municipality for storks to build nests. Stating that this is a land of immigration and a continuation of the Sultan Marshes, Demir said, “They come every year.” We are used to it. It’s like he’s a member of our family, we can’t help but see a stork. In this season, storks become the symbol of this place.
They arrive in mid-March and leave around the end of the 9th month. This land is fertile. Fish, insects, everything is abundant. Storks can benefit and feed here as they wish. They also raise their young efficiently. Flat land, plenty of water and swamps. A place that our storks love. he said. Demir stated that storks add a special beauty to their neighborhood, which outsiders call stork villages. Demir, who wants tourists coming to the region to be more sensitive to the environment and travel without causing pollution, noted that in this way, natural beauties can be protected.
