Night museum practice has started in the Ancient City of Ephesus, located in the Selçuk district of Izmir and illuminated with lights. Within the scope of the practice carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the ancient city will accept visitors between 19.00-22.00.

Visitors will be asked to vacate the area by 23:00. In the application initiated to enable the ancient city to be visited during cool hours, important areas such as the Celsus Library, Agora Square, Curetes Street, Domitian Temple, ancient theater and Yamachevler are supported with special lighting. In addition, the barcovision display, which started last year on the façade of the Celsus Library, will continue this season.

The night museum practice in the ancient city will continue until October 1. On the other hand, many people who came to the first day of the night museum program waited for the lights to turn on in the ancient city and took photos. – “We plan to exceed 300 thousand people as night museum visitors.” Ephesus Museum Director Murat Kaleağasıoğlu told the AA reporter that they plan to exceed the number of visitors of last season.

Stating that night museum activities will be held in the Ancient City of Ephesus on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Kaleağasıoğlu stated that the practice is planned to continue until October 1. Noting that they received great interest last season, Kaleağasıoğlu continued: “We expect the same interest again this year. Our visitors are happier to visit Ephesus at night because the day is hot and they are very happy with the ambience reflected by the light.

They have a different experience. We have an opera and ballet festival in June. It will start on June 27 and will be our last show around July 15. We will close the night museum when these events take place in our ruins. Other days are at night.” Our museum activities will continue. Last year’s visitor numbers exceeded 2.5 million and we plan to approach 3 million this year. “When we look at night museum visitors, we plan to exceed 300 thousand people.” Melik Çiftçi, who participated in the night museum event, stated that he came from abroad for a holiday and said, “I saw this place on the internet.

The night ambiance is very nice, I liked it. It is a very beautiful, magnificent place. A must see place.” he said. Gülşah Çetin, who visited the ancient city, stated that she liked it very much and said, “We came to Şirince and saw it by chance on our way. I have been to Ephesus twice before, but this is a fascinating environment. There is a huge difference between coming during the day and coming at night. It’s like I’ve arrived somewhere else.

In general, night museums should be continued.” he said.
