ISTANBUL (AA) – At the 17th International Istanbul Opera and Ballet Festival organized by the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet (DOB), the “Swan Lake” ballet met with art lovers at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) Türk Telekom Opera Hall. The performance, which received a standing ovation from the audience, was staged by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (IDOB) with guest principal dancers. Sultan Erol played the roles of “White Swan” (Odette) and “Black Swan” (Odile), İlhan Durgut played the role of “Prince Siegfried”, Mehmet Nuri Arkan played the role of “Rothbart” and Yılmaz Berkay Günay played the role of “Benno”.
Ankara State Opera and Ballet ballet artist Sultan Erol, in his statement to the AA correspondent, stated that he was happy to take part in the festival and said, “It was an enjoyable preparation process for us. We will dance with a different choreography.” he said. Ballet artist İlhan Durgut stated that “Swan Lake” is important among classical ballet works and said, “It is a great pleasure for us to be on the AKM stage in Istanbul.
Swan Lake is one of the works that every dancer wants to dance most in line with their absolute goal in their career. When you dance, it definitely leaves a mark on your career.” “I am also very happy to dance the role of Siegfried.” he said. “Swan Lake”, the world’s favorite classical ballet work for over a century, tells the story of young Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with Princess Odette. The ballet “Swan Lake”, consisting of four acts, composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875-1876, was staged for the first time in the world at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow with the choreography of Julius Reisinger, and then on January 15, 1895, in St.
Petersburg with the original choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. It met with the audience at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. – “Swan Lake” will meet the audience once again on June 10 as part of the festival. In this new version, the contrast of the roles of the “White Swan” (Odette) and the “Black Swan” (Odile) is among the striking elements of the ballet. “Swan Lake”, which was performed for the first time in Turkey by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet on October 29, 1965, with the choreography of Dame Ninette de Valois, met with the audience for the first time by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, with the interpretation of Güloya Gürelli, at the Maksim Stage on March 14, 1971.
Based on the version of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, staged with the choreography of Ricardo Amarante and accompanied by the music of Tchaikovsky, the work was performed by İbrahim Yazıcı and the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra was conducted. The decor design of the work is by Ferhat Karakaya, the costume design is by Serdar Başbuğ, and the lighting design is by Ahmet Defne. Berin Günay and Merve Erdier as “2 girlfriends”, Can Bezirganoğlu as “Jester”, Şeyda Duran as “Queen”, Alper Akalın as “Wolfgang”, Alkış Peker as “Accompanist” were on the stage.
The 17th International Istanbul Opera and Ballet Festival, organized by the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet, will meet art lovers until June 10. Within the scope of the festival, 13 works, including foreign guest artists, will be presented to audiences of all ages with a total of 22 performances. The ballet “Swan Lake” will be staged once again on June 10 as part of the festival.
