ERZURUM (AA) – A program was organized for Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ) to become “the first university to specialize in additive manufacturing”. In the program held at the High Technology Research Center (YÜTAM) on the university campus, ETÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak made a presentation about the university’s laboratory studies. Stating that they started working as a university in 2014, Çakmak said, “This work has a history of approximately 12 years.
Afterwards, it started to be carried out comprehensively in high value-added areas such as aviation, engineering and medical applications.” he said. Stating that they are training master’s and doctoral students in the field in question, Çakmak said, “In the final stage, what is actually desired is the realization of the university-industry cooperation. There were criticisms that what was done at the university remained there and was not transferred to the industry.
I can say that we have easily completed this process in the field of manufacturing. In other words, the work done has now been transferred to the industry.” he said. Stating that the additive manufacturing field consists of 3 basic components, Çakmak said: “Our research infrastructure and 10 research groups continue their activities. When we look at the technological benefits of research, our infrastructure professors work together with dentists.
The products are used in dentistry. “Especially in the aerospace industry, you cannot produce many geometries that are not produced by normal traditional methods with a method other than additive manufacturing.” After the speech, Çakmak visited the studies carried out in YÜTAM laboratories with the university administration and journalists.
