ISTANBUL (AA) – Volunteer divers of the Cemre Foundation cleaned the seabed in Tuzla within the scope of June 5 World Environment Day. Cleaning work on the seabed was initiated within the scope of a project carried out by the Foundation to contribute to the protection of the marine ecosystem and to protect and increase sea meadows. Scuba diving was carried out in Tuzla by volunteer divers to collect the waste found at the bottom.

Cemre Foundation Project Coordinator Tuna Çevik told the press that they came together with volunteers to clean the bottom. Foundation’s Scientific Board Member Prof. Dr. Stating that they first carried out sea cleaning in this region under the leadership of Mustafa Sarı, Çevik said, “After the bottom cleaning, we will protect the sea meadows and pina mussels here.” Afterwards, we will plant the seagrass we procured from the Islands region to enlarge the habitat.

Stating that he was here for bottom cleaning within the scope of the project, Saygın said, “Bottom cleaning is actually a mandatory start for seagrass planting.” We will do this, and we will recycle the resulting waste.

The aim is to take the collected waste to recycling centers, reuse it depending on the type of waste, or turn it into a work of art.
