ANKARA (AA) – Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said that efforts to end foreign dependency in oil and natural gas continue without slowing down. Stating that there are two important elements in the Turkish economy and that if they are solved, Türkiye can overcome all its problems, Bayraktar said that exports should become value-added in the Turkish industry.
Today, Türkiye exports over 270 billion dollars. We are a very important production country, a very important production capability, and a strong enterprise. Bayraktar stated that the second element is energy and that Türkiye continues its work in every field without slowing down and takes important steps to ensure independence in energy.
Stating that energy independence is an integral part of national security, Bayraktar said: As a country, we paid a bill of approximately 100 billion dollars in 2022 for energy imports. A life without energy is unthinkable to meet the increasing needs to keep the wheels of the economy turning. Especially in such a period of high energy prices in 2026, removing this burden from the budget is really important for the independence of the economy and national security.
Our need for energy is increasing, our industry is growing, our population is increasing, urbanization is increasing. Türkiye is searching for natural gas and oil in our own seas in the Blue Homeland. Türkiye’s highest quality oil is now produced in its geography, which has been a place of terror for years.
