The US Army has expanded its fleet of modernized heavy-lift helicopters by signing a $324 million contract with Boeing for six CH-47F Block II Chinook helicopters. With this development, which is part of the army’s efforts to accelerate the delivery of operational equipment, the total number of CH-47F Block II helicopters under the contract increased to 24. CH-47F Block II Chinook; Designed to support logistics operations in harsh environments, including contested and adverse conditions.
Boeing stated that the platform offers increased lift capacity, longer range and improved survivability. According to the company, the scope of modernization includes a reinforced transmission system and body structure. These improvements increase the helicopter’s maximum takeoff weight by approximately 4,000 pounds, while changes in the fuel system contribute to extending the mission range. The design also allows for future modernization and increased sustainability.
Boeing has delivered six CH-47F Block II helicopters to date. Along with previous deliveries, the Army plans to deploy its first operational unit equipped with this aircraft by mid-2028.
