The Nevşehir leg of the “Astro Hackathon” event, organized in 37 provinces under the leadership of the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), has started. The event is held with the aim of increasing space awareness, encouraging young people’s curiosity about space technologies, productivity and entrepreneurship culture, and transforming the innovative ideas into sustainable added value. Participants came together at Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Vali Şinasi Kuş Culture and Congress Center for the event, which was held simultaneously by TUA in cooperation with All Inventors, Invention, Innovation and Research Association (TÜMMİAD) and Valentura Technology and Investment Inc.

In the program, which started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, Industry and Technology Provincial Director Yusuf Şahin wished success to the participants. Pointing out that the event was designed as an inclusive learning environment that supports thinking, teamwork, problem solving, scientific curiosity and imagination, Şahin said: “Events such as Astro Hackathon allow our young people to develop themselves not only with theoretical knowledge but also with problem solving, teamwork and innovative thinking skills.

Dear young people, the ideas you put forward here today will perhaps shape the space technologies of tomorrow. The projects you will develop will be very valuable steps that will contribute to our country’s national technology move. Remember that great successes start with bold dreams. Your imagination and effort are one of the most important forces that will shape Turkey’s future. “It is also meaningful to organize such a visionary event in a city with high historical and cultural richness like Nevşehir.” Ersan Yüksekkaya, who assumed the local leadership of the event, noted that Turkey has taken important steps in the field of space and that more successful points will be reached with the efforts of young architects of the future.

Explaining that the winners at the end of the two-day event will participate in the finals to be held later, Yüksekkaya said, “Don’t be afraid to try, make mistakes, argue, collide your ideas. Because we know that sometimes the brightest solutions are born from those tiny ideas that seem ridiculous at first. What you are doing here today is not just a competition. This is the beginning of your own journey. Maybe one of you will manage a giant space project tomorrow.

Maybe one of you will start your own startup. Maybe this event will be the real breaking point in your life. We truly have a huge potential, and the liveliest, most creative part of this potential is right between you right now.” he said. At the event, teams consisting of students over the age of 15 worked to produce ideas that would offer solutions in various fields such as “Autonomous Route Optimization for the Lunar Surface”, “Innovative Radiation Shield for Communication Satellites”, “Space Port: Logistics and Environmental Impact Simulation”, “Solar Storms Early Warning Network”.
