KİLİS (AA) – Kilis Mayor Hakan Bilecen resigned from the Republican People’s Party (CHP). In his statement, Bilecen stated that he became the mayor by receiving a high number of votes in the elections on March 31, 2024, during the candidacy process that he initiated with the demands of the people. Stating that the promises made by CHP after being elected mayor were not fulfilled, Bilecen said: Except for Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, I did not receive support from any municipality.
Since I took office, I have gone door to door but to no avail. They always had an excuse and reason. These reasons have increased. The absolute nullity case, then the change of CHP leader, the official chairman, the unofficial chairman… We are tired of this situation. We want to separate Kilis Municipality from the political turmoil within the Republican People’s Party and the country and put it aside. Bilecen emphasized that he will continue his duty independently and said: I made a decision after long consultations in order to focus on better services to Kilis and to protect my city and municipality from political conflicts.
I think this is the best decision for now. I will continue on my way as an independent mayor. I would like to thank every individual in the Republican People’s Party. May anyone have whatever rights I have. I made this decision because it was right and would be beneficial to my city. There is no other reason for me to make this decision. We are embarking on this path to provide better service. I hope we chose the right path.
