Presidency Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün stated that Turkey’s defense industry ecosystem has come a long way in the last 20 years and said, “Our defense industry has now turned into a very serious technology army with the stable, determined trust and support of our President, especially in the last 20 years.” he said. The press launch of the “Industrial Cooperation Days in Defense and Aviation” (IDA Turkey), which will be held at ATO Congresium on 14-16 October with the support of the Ministry of National Defense and the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), was held at the OSTİM Conference Hall.

In his speech at the event, Görgün said that the activities carried out by IDA Turkey in coordination with the SSB with its new format have strategic value. Drawing attention to the human resources in the development process of the defense industry and the sacrifices of industrialists, Görgün emphasized the importance of the struggle for technological independence dating back to the Cyprus Peace Operation period. Görgün pointed out that the sector is not just about the main contractors and said: “Our defense industry has now turned into a very serious technology army with the stable and determined trust and support of our President, especially in the last 20 years.

On the front and visible side of this technology army, we have integrator companies, intermediate contractors, as well as subcontractors, sub-industries and SMEs, which are not visible behind the front but whose heroism is well known to all of us. As the Presidency of Defense Industries, we organize all the activities of our SMEs, their activities that can raise awareness and “We strive to produce policies, support them and bring innovations that will enable them to manage healthier, more innovative production processes in the future.” Emphasizing that each part of the weapon systems and platforms required by the field conditions must be produced at the highest quality, Görgün stated that subcontractors stand at a critical threshold in the integration processes.

Görgün continued his speech as follows: “While our main contractors are integrating air defense systems, developing our National Combat Aircraft, producing our ballistic missiles, UAV/SIHA systems and naval platforms, we always strive to keep on the agenda that it is very important that the products developed by our subcontractors used in these main systems are produced in the required time, quality and economy. As the President of Defense Industries, I also strive to take part in the activities of our clusters, organized industrial zones and non-governmental organizations, especially SMEs.” “Our companies operating in the defense industry have become exporters.” Expressing that the visibility of Turkey’s defense industry products in the international arena has been strengthened not only with quality but also with after-sales support, Görgün shared the current economic data of the sector.

Drawing attention to the export figures in this field, Görgün said: “Yesterday, I stated that we completed the export of over 10 billion dollars with a growth of 48 percent compared to the previous year, and the new contract we signed, worth approximately 18 billion dollars, with a growth of approximately 80 percent compared to the previous year. The issue that I left incomplete in my speech yesterday, which I will complete today, is the share of our SMEs here.

Last year, the number of our exporting companies was over 1500. When we evaluate our main contractors Considering that most of the nearly 1500 companies are SMEs, it makes me happy to share that our companies operating in the defense industry have become exporters. Naturally, I would like to share with you that most of the nearly 4 thousand companies operating in the defense industry are also SMEs, according to the figures we obtained from the Industrial Competence Evaluation and Support Program (EYDEP) records.” Görgün signed the IDA Türkiye sponsors board at the end of the program.

Within the scope of the event, a plaque of appreciation was presented by Görgün to veteran industrialist Ziya Yalçın, who carried out production for the Turkish Armed Forces during the Cyprus Peace Operation. Source: AA
