ARTVİN (AA) – Chairman of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Türkiye (TZOB), Şemsi Bayraktar, met with farmers in Borcka district of Artvin. Bayraktar, who listened to the problems and demands of the farmers he met during his visit to Borcka Chamber of Agriculture, said in his speech that the chambers of agriculture have become administratively and financially stronger in recent years and provide more services. Stating that many chambers of agriculture have implemented product processing facilities, laboratories and various projects, Bayraktar said, “As a professional organization, as an organization that serves farmers, we need to do our part.
We must always be with our farmers. As you know, we have started to experience major disasters in the last few years. Last year, there were 1011 disasters. So this is a large number in the field and our farmers are left proud of all kinds of disasters. Hail, tornadoes, now floods due to excessive rainfall. Therefore, this is troublesome.” “We stand by our farmers at times.” he said. Bayraktar stated that farmer production is an economic activity and said, “Our farmers need to earn money from this economic activity.
Both the product sold must be profitable and we must support our farmers with support policies. In this sense, our work and efforts continue. If we ensure this, we will ensure the food security of our country. “We will continue to feed our people.” he said. Stating that production should be supported in order to maintain Turkey’s food security, Bayraktar emphasized that domestic production is of strategic importance.
Referring to the importance of the fight against the brown skunk pest, Bayraktar said, “If we cannot fight the skunk very well, our hazelnut production and other production areas will suffer greatly. It damages not only hazelnuts, but every product. We have to fight against this stronger, let me state this clearly. There is a struggle. “Both organizations and the public are doing their best in this regard.” he said.
