Financial Times: Iran used Chinese-made spy satellite to target US bases

It has been claimed that Iran used a Chinese-made spy satellite to target US bases in the war that started with the attacks of the USA and Israel.

It has been claimed that Iran used a Chinese-made spy satellite to target US bases in the war that started with the attacks of the USA and Israel. In the news of the British Financial Times (FT) newspaper, based on leaked military documents, it was stated that satellite images and orbital analyzes showed that the Chinese-made satellite was used to monitor US military points. According to investigations, the “TEE-01B” satellite, produced by the China-based company “Earth Eye Co” and sent into space at the end of 2024, was allegedly purchased by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Army (IRGC) shortly after launch.

Orbit analysis showed that the spy satellite, which can provide images with a resolution of about half a meter, was located over US military bases during unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and missile attacks. It was stated that the targets monitored included US military facilities in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq. The news stated that the images were recorded just before and after the UAV and missile attacks, and it was argued that the satellite may have been used to direct the attacks.

The news claimed that Iran received permission to use ground stations belonging to the Beijing-based “Emposat” company, and thus could access the data coming from the satellite not only over its own territory, but also over a network extending from Asia to Latin America. Experts stated that this situation means a development for Iran’s military intelligence capacity and evaluated that it is unlikely that a technology transfer of this magnitude will occur without Beijing’s approval.

US President Donald Trump stated that he was considering imposing a 50 percent customs duty on countries that provide military support to Iran. Answering the question of whether this includes China, Trump said, “Yes, China and probably other countries. But especially China. I have heard reports that China is providing shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles (to Iran). I don’t always trust these news. I don’t think they will do this, maybe they did some in the beginning.

But if we catch any country, including China, supplying military equipment to Iran, they will face a 50 percent tariff.” He commented. Source: AA
