Today is Monday… Ugh! Who do you think came to my mind when I was at the bottom of Monday syndrome and barely able to get out of bed? Of course, the famous yellow cat who hates Mondays to death and loves lasagna! While I was on my day off today, I said let’s discuss the 2004 movie Garfield. But this time there are no deep psychological analyzes or heavy subtexts; Let’s relax a little, let’s relax, let’s release our inner child.
You know, normally in my writings, we think about “character development” and “director’s vision”. But let’s be honest, this movie doesn’t teach us the secret of life or anything. Of course, it is not a philosophical movie that teaches anything. But it’s so fun, so sincere… It’s a complete “turn off your brain, sink into your chair and enjoy the moment” production. It is very easy to watch! Speaking of which, I’ll be calling him Gar throughout the review.
You know, I’m a huge Teen Titans fan! The real name of our green friend Beast Boy there is Garfield Logan, and the team calls him “Gar” for short. That’s why I feel like calling this lazy cat Gar, I think it suits him very well! Anyway, let’s dive into this fun nostalgia tour: Story and Gar’s World. The movie tells the story of our Gar’s kingdom being shaken when the sweet but naive dog Odie enters Jon Arbuckle’s life.
To put it in FRP terms: While our Gar is living like a king in his own comfortable “dungeon” and taking all the “loot” (especially lasagna) by himself, a cheerful and hyperactive NPC suddenly joins the party! Well, of course, all of Gar’s charisma and comfort are depicted. Transfer of the Character (Our Lazy Tin) I think the movie conveyed the spirit of Garfield, who is careless, egoistic, but at the end of the day, in the comics, with a heart as soft as cotton, to the screen incredibly well.
Their blending of the CGI technology of that period with the real world may seem a bit old to you today, but those facial expressions, those sarcastic attitudes are exactly what we are looking for, Gar! Especially Bill Murray’s voice in the English original and Okan Bayülgen’s voice in the legendary Turkish dubbing literally breathes soul into the character. Why It’s Watchable, Zero Stress: There’s no need to strain your mind or try to figure out the plot.
It flows like water. Childish Fun: His fights with Odie and the traps Gar sets up with his lazy mind make you giggle involuntarily. Monday Therapy: Today is Monday and if you are in the “off” mode today like me, believe me, it feels very good to accompany Gar’s laziness. General Evaluation In short, 2004’s Garfield is not a masterpiece that changed the history of cinema. But “Is it sincere?”, “Is it fun?”, “Does it warm your heart?”… Yes, until the end!
After all, we need such sweet, comforting and childish movies once in a while. May your Monday be syndrome-free and full of fun. See you in the comments!
