Melek Bal, the daughter of singer Umut Akyürek and Oktay Ertuğrul, became a trending topic on social media with the TikTok video she shot at her grandfather’s funeral. Bal, who received intense criticism due to the images, responded to the discussions with a statement he made on his social media account.
Stating that she loves her grandfather very much, Melek Bal used the following expressions in her post:
“I loved my grandfather very much, and my grandfather loved me very much. My grandfather recently had dementia. He had started to forget everything lately, but he was a very cheerful person. Everyone cried a lot behind my grandfather, and maybe I cried the most. He would have preferred this rather than my grandfather crying behind his back. How do you know that I wasn’t upset? The shock of the incident also had an effect, I didn’t know what I was doing at that moment. I don’t regret it, and I don’t care about anyone.”

On the other hand, Turkish Classical Music artist Umut Akyürek had previously made a statement on the subject. Akyürek, who evaluated his daughter’s behavior as “unconsciousness”, used the following statements:
“Our pain is very fresh, we lost our father. Unfortunately, at our funeral, my daughter shot an extremely unconscious video that will never be approved. Pain is not shared like this in any culture. I do not approve of it either.”
Akyürek also reacted to the TikTok platform, criticizing the effect of social media on young people, saying: “The cesspit called TikTok continues to poison young people. Society is being destroyed for clicks and financial gain. Why isn’t it closed?” expressions had used it.
The famous artist later made evaluations based on popular culture by criticizing Hadise and Gülşen in his statement. Akyürek also touched upon the problems he had with his daughter, “I am not defending my child. There are always fights and fights in my house.
