Multi-layer protection shield against asymmetric UAV threats

By integrating the advanced capabilities of CANiK, AEI Systems and UNIROBOTICS, Samsun Yurt Defense (SYS Grup) has developed a New Generation Mobile Layered Defense Architecture against the rapidly changing needs of modern warfare and increasing UAV threats. New Generation Mobile Layered Anti-UAV Defense Architecture (C-UAS) was developed under the leadership of UNIROBOTICS, one of the SYS Group companies, against the swarm and kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threats that have changed the modern battlefield significantly in recent times.

This architecture stands out with its decentralized structure, not dependent on a single center; It combines the 12.7mm M3 heavy machine gun and 30mm VENOM LR medium-caliber gun systems produced by Grub in a single mobile ecosystem. “It can operate independently with its own sensor and operator.” Unlike classical air defense systems, this concept developed by UNIROBOTICS is based on a completely distributed architecture.

Remote Controlled Weapon Systems (UKSS), integrated into any 4×4 mobile platforms, can operate independently with its own sensor and operator. In this way, even if an element of the system is disabled, the defense line is not broken and an uninterrupted and sustainable engagement is ensured against all types of UAV threats. The system offers a three-layer kinetic (hard-kill) protection shield to eliminate threats before they get close.

In the outer layer, TRAKON 30 UKSS 30×113 mm gun, which can reach 1,350 shots per minute thanks to its adjustable firing rate; It operates by firing high destructive power (HEI-HEDP) and/or proximity fuze (proximity) ammunition at a range of up to 2 kilometers, depending on the size and speed of the threat. In this layer, all types of loitering ammunition, especially Shahed-136 type loitering ammunition, and Class 1 and Class 2 platforms in the NATO UAV classification are effectively targeted.

“Rate of 1,200 shots per minute” In the middle layer, the M3 heavy machine gun, which can reach a rate of 1,200 shots per minute with TRAKON 12.7 systems; It creates a formidable line of defense against kamikaze drone threats with high-intensity firepower. In the close defense layer (last layer), the 7.62 mm M134 Minigun, which can fire 3,000 shots per minute with TRAKON LITE 134; It neutralizes smaller and very close-range threats within seconds.

The production of all main components of the system (UKSS, weapon and integration) by UNIROBOTICS, CANiK and AEI Systems under the umbrella of SYS Group brings the advantages of seamless system integration, fast delivery and scalable production in the project. This integrated force makes a strategic difference in protecting critical infrastructures and military bases. In his assessment of the subject, SYS Group CEO Cahit Utku Aral emphasized that the modern conflict environment necessitates unpredictable and cost-effective systems that can survive in the field rather than centralized structures.

Aral said, “This architecture, which we have created with the integration of the competencies we have developed within the group, is not only a solution, but also represents a new generation defense concept. Recent developments in the Middle East have once again clearly shown that one of the most critical needs in the modern conflict environment is cost-effective counter-UAV solutions.” Our goal is to ensure that all friendly and allied countries, especially our country, have sustainable and cost-effective close air defense systems.

Under the leadership of UNIROBOTICS, we produce all critical components in-house with our companies CANiK and AEI Systems, and offer users a fully integrated, reliable and uninterrupted supply chain.” he said. “Mobility, layered engagement capability” UNIROBOTICS General Manager Ömür BAÇ also pointed out that drone threats are no longer singular, but come in low-cost flocks, and said: “Our solution can work integrated with central battle management systems and command-control structures, as well as having a flexible architecture that can operate decentrally if necessary.

Thanks to this structure, targeting or disabling the command center does not cause the entire system to become ineffective. With its distributed and durable architecture, the system maintains operational continuity even in the event of loss of any of its elements. “With its mobility, layered engagement capability and flexible usage concept, this solution provides an optimized defense network in the modern threat environment.”
