They Protested Because They Couldn’t Get Their Salaries: Doruk Mining Workers Are Preparing for Action Again!

Doruk Mining workers, who started a protest last month on the grounds that they could not receive their salaries and became a hot topic in Türkiye with their protests, received wage…

Doruk Mining workers, whose wages and compensation were not paid in Eskişehir, started a march from Eskişehir under the leadership of the Independent Maden-İş Union and started a hunger strike with a sit-in protest in front of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources on April 20. After the protests, which lasted for days and remained on the country’s agenda, it was promised that the workers’ wages and compensation would be paid under the guarantee of the ministries, and the protest ended with a compromise on April 28.

ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AGAIN AFTER BAYRAMON. However, it has been claimed that the promises made to the workers were not kept and that Yıldızlar SSS Holding, which promised to pay the workers’ receivables, did not fulfill its obligations. For this reason, it was learned that the Independent Maden-İş Union was preparing for action again after the holiday. In the statement made by the union, it was stated that 3 to 7 months of unpaid salaries of the employees were paid during the process, collective bargaining agreement differences were deposited into the accounts, but only the finalized compensation receivables of some employees were covered.

PAYMENTS WERE POSTPONED AFTER THE FESTIVAL. In the statement, it was emphasized that the holding company to which Doruk Mining is affiliated did not fulfill its promises and the following statements were made: “Although there were no problems in the communications established with the holding CEO every other day until May 15, no significant steps were taken within the holding company and the promises were not fulfilled.

Although new dates were constantly given, no payments were made on these dates. In the last meeting, it was decided that no payments would be made before the holiday and all payments were postponed until after the holiday.” “It has been forwarded to us.” In the union statement, it was also stated that not keeping the promises has become a habit, and although repeated applications were made to the ministries involved in the process as guarantors, no concrete solution was produced.

The following statements were also included in the statement: “The fact that the company paid 10 million liras to the yellow union before the payments of the employees whose receivables were finalized were completed clearly shows that the process was abused. This payment is a reward given to the yellow union, which has been mediating the oppression of employees and loss of rights for years. “There is no explanation for this payment, which was made without paying the employees’ well-deserved receivables.” Calling on the guarantor ministries, the union stated that the resistance will continue after the holiday.

In the statement, it was emphasized that the struggle will continue until the unpaid compensation, payments for unpaid leave days, premiums for these periods and all outstanding receivables are paid in full. Finally, the union said, “We declare that we will put forward a very strong resistance in Ankara, especially Doruk Mining workers and victimized families, on June 1, after the holiday.”
