ZSR Explosives Deputy General Manager Mehmet Özdemir, who produces all critical components including casings, cores and capsules in their facility with a closed area of 40 thousand square meters in Balıkesir, said in his exclusive statements to Defensehere.com that they aim to minimize Turkey’s foreign dependency in this field. ZSR Ammunition fully complies with NATO standards in all calibers it produces. The company’s production portfolio includes 9×19 mm, 5.56×45 mm, 7.62×39 mm, 7.62×51 mm and 12.7×99 mm calibers.
Deputy General Manager of ZSR Explosives emphasized that they aim to reduce Turkey’s foreign dependency in this field with their production lines and said, “Our company, which initially established the production infrastructure, moved to a fully integrated production model in a short time. We now produce all critical ammunition components such as casings, cores and capsules in-house. Preventing foreign dependency is the most important priority for us.” Özdemir underlined that this integrated structure is the biggest difference that separates ZSR from its competitors.
600 personnel and engineering force Approximately 600 people are employed at ZSR. Of this number, 500 are blue-collar employees and 100 are white-collar employees. 40 of them make up the company’s engineering staff. Özdemir said that this human resources structure forms the basis of the company’s production power and engineering capability. High precision with serial machinery. Expressing that the company’s serial machinery is structured to cover all stages of ammunition production, Özdemir emphasized that metal forming and processing machines, automatic filling and assembly lines, primer (capsule) production facilities and ballistic testing and quality control equipment are optimized to ensure high precision and repeatability in all processes.
“We produce all our ammunition components in our own facilities. Cases, cores, capsules… All of these are shaped under the roof of ZSR. In this way, we aim to completely eliminate foreign dependency,” said Özdemir, adding that the fact that capsule (primer) production is also carried out within the company is the biggest indicator that they have full control of the production process. Global goals and strategic vision Underlining that the main strategic goals of ZSR explosive are to maintain its place among the leading ammunition manufacturers in the global market and ensure continuous development, to increase product diversity with new calibers, to increase high-tech production investments and to gain a permanent place in strategic markets, Özdemir stated that the company’s primary customer portfolio consists of the Turkish Armed Forces, General Directorate of Security, Gendarmerie General Command and local law enforcement forces.
In addition, Özdemir stated that providing ammunition solutions to NATO allied countries is among ZSR’s priorities. Export success to 148 countries Informing that ZSR Explosive has exported to 148 countries as of today, Özdemir said that the company is constantly expanding its global reach and that they aim to increase their cooperation with international distributors and defense supply chain stakeholders. “As of today, we have exported to more than 80 countries.
We are constantly expanding our global reach. “We aim to be permanent in the international market, especially NATO allies,” said Özdemir, adding that the company also operates in the civilian market, especially in the fields of sports shooting and hunting. Emphasis on domestic production Özdemir stated that ZSR Ammunition’s production model draws attention with its high localization rate and said, “In addition to the production of all critical components within the company, raw materials, including gunpowder, are supplied from domestic sources.
In this way, while foreign dependency is minimized, quality and process control have reached the maximum level.” he said.
