According to Yonhap news, an explosion occurred at the defense industry company Hanwha Aerospace factory in Daejeon city at 10.59 local time. Fire crews were dispatched to the facility where a fire broke out after the explosion. Authorities announced that 5 people died at the scene and 2 people were injured, 1 seriously.
It is considered that the explosion occurred while employees were carrying out cleaning work related to explosive substances.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
In his statement, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung ordered that all available resources be mobilized for rescue efforts.
