VAN (AA) – NECMETTİN KARACA – National athlete Taha Yasin Zortul, who lives in Erciş district of Van, turned his eyes to the world championship after winning the gold and silver medals in the European Arm Wrestling Championship. 15-year-old Taha, a student of Erciş Social Sciences High School, came first in the 45 kilo category at the Nurettin Yüksel Turkish Arm Wrestling Championship held in Yalova on April 9 and was selected for the national team.

The national athlete won the gold medal in the left arm and the silver medal in the right arm at the European Arm Wrestling Championship in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, on 10-14 May. The national athlete aims to win gold medals in both arms at the World Arm Wrestling Championship to be held in India on October 26-November 7. – “I aim to win a gold medal” Taha told the AA reporter that he has been interested in arm wrestling for about two years.

Stating that he is proud of his achievements and focused on bigger victories, Taha said, “I started arm wrestling in the 9th grade, through school sports. I became the first in Turkey. Thanks to this success, I was entitled to enter the national team. I became the European champion in the left arm in the 15-year-old category in the European Championship, with my efforts, prayers and belief.” In the right arm, I came second in Europe.

These results were a source of great pride for me. “I aim to continue my success in the world championship.” he said. Stating that he was proud to sing the National Anthem and wave the star and crescent flag in the organization where hundreds of athletes from dozens of countries competed, Taha Yasin said, “My goal now is the world championship. I have about 4-5 months of preparation ahead of me. “I aim to represent our country in the best possible way in the championship, come first and win the gold medal.” he said.
