Jaguar announced the name of the four-door GT car, which will be the first model of its new fully electric era, as Type 01. The model, which will be introduced later this year, will be displayed for the first time on the streets of Monaco with its special camouflage coating before the Formula E organization. Jaguar Type 01 comes with a power exceeding 1,000 horsepower. Jaguar, of which Borusan Otomotiv is the distributor in Turkey, will use the name Type 01 in its new electric GT model.
The car, which is the first representative of the brand’s new generation, carries the Jaguar heritage in design, technology and performance to a fully electric platform. The name Type 01 directly reflects the electric character of the model and the new era it has opened for Jaguar. The 0 in the name stands for electric powertrain and zero exhaust emissions. 1 corresponds to the car being the first model in Jaguar’s new era.
Type 01, which will be designed, developed and produced in the United Kingdom, will be the starting point of the brand’s new product family. The name of Jaguar Type 01 is located on the characteristic line motif at the point where the car’s hood meets the windshield. The bold and linear graphics used in this section will be among the signature design details that will be seen in the brand’s future models. The new model combines Jaguar’s unique character with its strong body proportions and high-performance electric infrastructure.
While Type 01 offers a distinctive stance with its innovative body architecture, it produces over 1,000 horsepower and over 1,300 Nm of torque with its three electric motor powertrain. With Type 01, Jaguar brings the Type name into the electric age. In the history of the brand, this expression was used for the first time on the C-type model that won Le Mans in 1951. In mass production cars, the Type designation represented models that combined high power reserves, dynamic driving character and refined handling in the same body.
E-type and more recently F-TYPE were among the best-known examples of this approach. Jaguar General Manager Rawdon Glover said in his statement about the new model that Jaguar was reconsidered for the new era with inspiration from the past. Glover stated that the engineers developed a car that is beyond the conventional perception of an electric car with its appearance and driving character, and that embodies the heritage of the brand.
Expressing that the name Type 01 is also a part of this story, Glover stated that the number 0 symbolizes the strong beginning of Jaguar’s new era and the number 1 symbolizes the first and unique representative of this period. Jaguar Type 01 will be officially introduced later this year. The first appearance of the model before the launch will be made with a special camouflage coating on the streets of Monaco before the Formula E organization.
