Huawei and JAC-supported Maextro S800 became the best-selling model of April 2026 in the ultra-luxury sedan market worth over 700 thousand yuan in China. According to ECC Intelligence data, the S800 ranked first on the list with sales of 1,142 units in April. While Mercedes-Maybach S-Class ranked second and Porsche Panamera ranked third, BMW 7 Series and i7 fell to fifth place. Maextro S800 was ahead of its European competitors.
Maextro S800 presented a remarkable picture in the sedan market that appeals to China’s upper income group. The model, which was the sales leader in April 2026 in the sedan segment over 700 thousand yuan, reached sales of 1,142 units. While BMW 7 Series and i7 ranked fifth with a total of 436 units, Audi A8 dropped to sixth place with 260 units. This table shows that domestic brands are now not only alternatives but also direct leaders in the ultra-luxury sedan segment in China. The sales of the S800 in April approached the total of the second-place Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and the third-place Porsche Panamera. In the rest of the segment, European-based models still stand out, but the fact that the Maextro brand, born from the partnership of Huawei and JAC, is at the top of the list clearly demonstrates the change in the Chinese luxury car market.
The decline on the BMW side was also one of the notable headlines of the list. BMW 7 Series and i7, which ranked second behind the Maextro S800 in January 2026 data, fell to fifth place in April. During the same period, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class rose to second place, while the Porsche Panamera rose from sixth to third place. While the Audi A8 was previously in the top five, it remained in sixth place in April. Looking at the January-April period, the leadership of the Maextro S800 becomes more evident.
The model reached sales of 5,465 units in the first four months of 2026. Mercedes-Maybach S-Class ranked second with 3,012 units in the same period. The April performance of the S800 also showed that the model has recovered after the decline in the last two months. Sales of the model in the Chinese domestic market were at 2,798 units in January 2026. It decreased to 922 units in February and 783 units in March. The sale of 1,142 units in April means a 45.9 percent increase on a monthly basis. The sales chart of the model at the end of 2025 also indicated a strong start.
Maextro S800 started its delivery process in August 2025 with sales of 1,006 units. It recorded sales of 1,896 units in September, 1,970 units in October, 2,205 units in November and 4,223 units in December. The increase rate in December 2025 was 91.5 percent compared to November. Maextro was developed under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance model in cooperation with Huawei and JAC Motors. The S800 hit the Chinese market in 2025 as the brand’s first mass production vehicle.
The model is sold in fully electric and range-extending electric versions. The price range varies between 708 thousand yuan and 1 million 18 thousand yuan. This amount corresponds to the range of approximately 104 thousand 100 dollars and 149 thousand 600 dollars at the current exchange rate. Huawei is also preparing new hardware updates for the S800. The company previously confirmed that the updated S800 will receive an 896-line mass-production lidar system.
This lidar system works with dual optical path architecture for intelligent driving functions. On the Maextro side, the luxury MPV model called V800 and the S800 Grand Design version, which comes with high customization options, were also revealed in the regulatory applications. The S800 Grand Design version will be the brand’s model for the higher luxury class. Huawei executive Richard Yu had previously said that this version was positioned as an option targeting the luxury segment in the 2 million yuan class.
This amount corresponds to approximately 294 thousand dollars. European brands are still in a strong position in the ultra-luxury sedan segment in China. Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series/i7 and Audi A8 continue to be at the top of the list. However, the fact that Maextro S800 was the leader by a wide margin both in April and in the January-April period shows that domestic Chinese brands have become permanent players in the top price band.
There is also pressure on the Chinese performance of German premium brands. BMW Group’s China deliveries fell 10 percent year-on-year to 143,958 units in the first quarter of 2026. Mercedes-Benz deliveries fell 27 percent to 111,600 units in the same period. On the Audi side, there was also a decline in Chinese deliveries. Audi A6L sales in March fell 9 percent year-on-year to 15,262 units, while the BMW 5 Series remained largely flat at 11,304 units.
