Once upon a time, when we saw that little lamp bouncing around in the credits, we knew that a great story, deep characters and an imaginative world awaited us. However, Disney Pixar’s latest wonder, Hoppers, proves that that lamp no longer shines, it just turns into a cheap spotlight trying to blind us. Let me tell you without beating around the bush: This is an idiot movie from beginning to end, with no quality whatsoever.
A Clichéd Scenario Hoppers sets out with the idea of transferring the human mind into a robotic beaver and infiltrating the animal kingdom. Although it seems like fun on paper, the movie handles this so lazily that what we watch on the screen turns into a complete “cliché” feast. There is not an iota of originality in the script. The core conflicts only exist because the characters act stupidly. The themes of “man against nature” and “collision of different worlds”, which we have seen thousands of times before, are thrown at us in such a bland way that the film cannot even manage to be a “copy-paste” job.
Real Art vs. Plastic Fabrication: There is no need to go far to see how the same or similar subjects can turn into masterpieces, such as Sauvages. The Swiss stop-motion marvel Sauvages (Savages), which was released recently, is a slap in the face to Hoppers at this point. While Sauvages was processing the relationship between nature, humans and animals, step by step, frame by frame, with stop-motion, he gave the audience a real spirit and emotion.
Despite its huge budget and CGI technology, Hoppers cannot even live up to the sincere story told by Sauvages. While one brings art and storytelling to the fore, the other is nothing more than a soulless fabricated product. Cringe-like Characters and Garbage Dialogues Let’s come to the most annoying point of the movie: The characters who try to be humorists but make you sink into your seat with shame while watching. Hoppers is supposedly designed to be fun and funny, but the dialogue quality suffers.
Every word that comes out of the characters’ mouth is like a bad imitation of cheap jokes from social media. So much so that the characters in the film are engraved in our memories as “monuments of cringe” (if they manage to remain in our memories). Conclusion: Hoppers is a cheesy, sloppy production that shows how far Pixar has come from its golden age and makes a fool of the audience. Do not go to the cinema and waste your ticket money or your valuable time in front of the screen on this movie.
Go watch Sauvages and enjoy stop-motion animation and real storytelling. Hoppers, on the other hand, may take its place on the shelves as a bad joke that is doomed to be forgotten. Score: 3/10 (And that’s just for the sake of the sleepless employees in the animation department.)
