Warner Bros. is preparing to bring one of the darkest and tragic figures of the comic book world to the big screen. Pictures and DC Studios presented the first official trailer for the highly anticipated Clayface movie. This production, which is within the DC Universe but differs from the usual superhero movies in tone, invites the audience to a terrifying story of revenge. Focusing on the origin story of the mud man, one of the most iconic villains of Batman comics, the film promises moviegoers an experience with a high dose of tension.

The Clayface script, written by Mike Flanagan, known for his successful horror productions such as “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Midnight Mass”, together with Hossein Amini, centers on the tragedy of the character. The film is largely inspired by “Feat of Clay”, the unforgettable two-part story of the legendary 1990s production “Batman: The Animated Series”.
The production, directed by James Watkins, is described as a psychological thriller in the “body-horror” genre rather than a pure action movie. Shot with a modest but effective budget of approximately 40 million dollars, the film aims to draw the audience in with its atmosphere. Matt Hagen’s Tragic Transformation The story of Clayface focuses on talented actor Matt Hagen, whose face became unrecognizable as a result of a terrible traffic accident.
Hagen, whose career and life are in disarray, is offered an experimental face cream that allows him to change his face into the look he wants, even if only for a short time. However, the side effects of this miraculous drug begin to change not only Hagen’s appearance but his entire biology. Over time, Matt Hagen turns into a gigantic mud creature that can take on the form of anyone he wants, but loses his true self. The psychological devastation caused by this mutation pushes him to take revenge on those who made him this way.
Star-Studded Cast: In the film, Tom Rhys Harries plays the character of Matt Hagen and his terrifying alter ego. Harries is accompanied on this dark journey by a strong supporting cast consisting of names such as Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, David Dencik and master actor Eddie Marsan. The actors’ performance aims to make the audience feel the inner pain experienced by the character, beyond the horror caused by the physical changes.
The production, which is seen as one of the most original projects of the new era, shaped under the umbrella of DC Studios under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, will be released in theaters on October 23. Clayface is set to prove how effective the horror genre can be in comic book adaptations.
