ANKARA (AA) – HÜLYA ÖMÜR UYLAŞ – General Manager of Soil Products Office (TMO), Ahmet Güldal, stated that although farmers have 30 days in some years and 45 days in some years after the delivery of their products, they plan to deposit the money early this year, and we are preparing our payment schedule between 3 and 6 weeks. We plan to start paying our producers after the third week. he said. Güldal made an evaluation to the AA correspondent regarding the grain purchase and sales prices of 2026.

Emphasizing that they foresee a fruitful harvest period this year, Güldal said that this was the period with the most rainfall in the last 38 years. Güldal reminded that the historical yield was estimated as 22 million 750 thousand tons of wheat and 9 million tons of barley, and stated that the yield is predicted to even exceed these figures. Pointing out that a yield of less than 400 kilograms per acre is not expected in Türkiye this year, Güldal said that even in lands where no cultivation has been made, serious yields per acre are seen.

Reminding that the grain purchase prices were announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on June 2, Güldal said: “When determining the grain purchase prices, there is no effort just to reflect a percentage rate on last year’s price. Costs are of course an important factor. The parameters of all inputs within the costs are also evaluated. In addition, there are also domestic and international prices and evaluations made by TMO within the scope of its regulation activities.

Of course, farmer expectations and welfare share are taken into account. Efficiency and yield are also very valuable in this sense. In other words, there is a cost calculation with a yield of 300 kilograms, and there is a cost calculation with a yield of 500 kilograms. Stating that a figure very close to the prices expected by farmers was announced, Güldal also stated that when the support of 3 thousand 14 liras per ton from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was evaluated, the grain purchase value corresponding to approximately 19 thousand 514 liras emerged.

– We prepared to purchase and store around 20 million tons of product. Güldal pointed out that there will be a higher yield this year than in 2023, and gave the following information about the measures they took: We planned over 600 purchasing points, as in 2023. There are licensed warehouses with a storage capacity of 10 million tons, TMO’s own warehouses of 4 million tons, and warehouses with pre-lease agreements of 3 million tons.

If needed, we have also made preparations for open field rentals for open stack storage. We are prepared to purchase and store around 20 million tons of products. Sharing his purchasing forecasts, Güldal stated that they expected 10 million tons of wheat and 3 million tons of barley to be supplied to TMO, but they did not limit themselves to this and made the necessary preparations. Emphasizing that the harvest was delayed a little this year due to rains and that there was a shift of approximately 20 days, one month, Güldal said that the harvest will be concentrated in all regions at the same time as the weather gets warmer or the temperatures continue.

Güldal pointed out that they are making preparations to purchase all the products that will be offered to TMO in the 2026 harvest period, and stated that the transactions of the producers who bring their products on the day they made an appointment will be completed within the day. – There will be no problem in supply security. Güldal pointed out that they have made payment plans and continued as follows: Our producers now know that TMO’s reference purchase prices will be shared with the public in the first week of June.

This year, we announced both our purchase and sales prices. Why did we do this? So that traders, all industrialists, exporters and especially our producers can now predict the end-harvest grain price indicators and make their plans accordingly. In some years we have a 30-day payment schedule, in some years we have a 45-day payment schedule. This never means that we will pay after 45 days. This year, we are preparing our payment schedule between 3 weeks and 6 weeks.

We plan to start paying our producers after the third week. We estimate that a very high amount of product may arrive at TMO and that we will create a significant amount of stock. In order not to embarrass our producers, we advise them to pay within 45 days at the latest. Güldal also touched upon the stock situation and said that they entered the year with a significant stock turnover and that this year will add to this with the high yield.

Therefore, Güldal emphasized that there will be no problems in supply security in Türkiye and said, “Due to the fact that grain prices are very low, especially in foreign markets, Turkey has protected both our production and producers with the application of 130 percent customs duty for 4 years, and the 130 percent customs duty application continues this year as well.” he said. – Warning to producers not to supply products to the market below the purchase prices.

Güldal also gave advice to the producers and said: I recommend that our producers do not supply products to the market at prices below the purchase prices announced by TMO. This should be considered the reference price, the base price. We also recommend our producers to be sensitive and careful. If there are buyers below this price, we do not recommend or recommend them to sell in any way. This price must be maintained.

Our producers, chamber of agriculture presidents, and non-governmental organizations have a duty to guide and warn the producers. It will be healthier for our country and our producers if the market is shaped at our prices and above. 16There are 54 geographically registered foods among the products offered for sale at the Gastronomy House, where the traditional flavors of Hatay are introduced. 26There are 54 geographically registered foods among the products offered for sale at the Gastronomy House, where the traditional flavors of Hatay are introduced.
