Audi has introduced the Audi activesphere concept, which is the fourth of the sphere concept model series and marks the culmination of the series.

Audi activesphere, where opposites come together in a synthesis, proves to be above the standards in versatility with a drive system and suspension that are equally adept both on and off the road. The steering wheel and pedals allow the driver to actively control the car, while also offering autonomous driving for a more comfortable time on the road. The model, which has a dynamic and elegant coupé appearance with its classic proportions and lines, can be transformed into a first-class pickup in just a few seconds.

Activesphere was designed as a new crossover combining the elegance of an Audi Sportback, the practicality of an SUV and true offroad capabilities at the Audi Design Studio in Malibu.

Audi activesphere combines the sustainability, dynamics and long-distance capability of electric vehicles with its range of over 600 km and extremely fast charging times thanks to 800 volt technology.

Autonomous driving on suitable terrain offers drivers and passengers a new level of freedom that can be used in a variety of ways in the active area, thanks to new display and operating technology. The innovative operating concept Audi Dimensions combines the physical and virtual worlds by displaying digital content in real time in the passengers’ field of vision.

Everything is hidden inside the vehicle

The high-tech Augmented Reality glasses provide a view of the real environment and route, while simultaneously displaying 3D content and interactive elements, and can be configured separately for drivers and passengers. This means that driving-related information such as driving status and navigation can be viewed by the driver. Inside, control panels and other virtual screens are hidden from view with the naked eye and have a minimalist design. Passengers in the vehicle cannot see touch-sensitive areas such as control panels and virtual screens with the naked eye, but thanks to Augmented Reality-AR optics and headphones, they can receive real-time reactions and functions when they touch these areas.

The Audi activesphere concept model combines physical reality and digital space for the first time. The most important part of the new system is the innovative AR glasses and headset, offered separately for each driver and passenger.

The unique optical precision, highest resolution and excellent contrast offered in the Audi activesphere concept brings control surfaces and displays invisible to the naked eye into the user’s field of vision while at the steering wheel.

In other words, the user can initially view virtual content that is for informational purposes only. If the user focuses on the information with his eyes, the system also displays more detailed information. When the user focuses and interacts, for example with gestures, the content becomes an active and interactive element.

It can intuitively follow the user’s gaze to control functions, while the user interface reacts to changes in real time.

In the uncluttered, spacious interior of the Audi activesphere, the elements needed appear only when users need them and can be operated intuitively, just like in the real world: such as the climate control or the entertainment and audio interactive panel above the speaker.

The possibilities of this technology are many; For example, in terrain mode, high-resolution 3D topography graphics can be projected onto real terrain and information about navigation and destination can be displayed.

The connection and ecosystem between AR set users and the car offers countless possibilities, even when outside the car. For example, while today navigation routes or vehicle maintenance can be prepared on a laptop or tablet from your living room, in the future AR technology and an AR kit will be the only hardware required.

Conversely, the activesphere passenger can take the headset out of the car and onto the ski slope to help navigate the bike trail or find the ideal descent when skiing downhill.

Fast charging with 800 volts

The heart of the drive technology in all future PPE models will be 800-volt charging technology. This enables the battery to be charged up to 270 kW in a very short time at fast charging stations such as the Audi e-tron GT quattro. This revolutionary technology will enter the high-volume mid-range and luxury segments for the first time with PPE.

PPE technology enables charging times that approach those of a conventional refueling time. Just 10 minutes will be enough time to get enough energy to power the vehicle for more than 300 kilometers.

And in less than 25 minutes, the 100 kWh battery charges from 5 percent to 80 percent. Audi activesphere is extremely suitable for long distances, with a range exceeding 600 kilometers.
