TIRANA (AA) – The police intervened with pressurized water against the demonstrators at the protest of the tourism project planned in the Zvernec region of Vlora (Vlora), held in Tirana, the capital of Albania. Thousands of demonstrators gathered on the Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard in Tirana to protest the sale of a beach in Zvernec within the scope of a tourism project reportedly linked to US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The demonstrators, who held signs and banners saying “Albania is not for sale”, walked from here to the Prime Ministry building. Demonstrators stated that they opposed construction activities in protected areas and chanted slogans like “Albania is ours”. During the fourth demonstration, slogans against Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were shouted, while the Albanian police intervened with water pressurized water against the demonstrators.

– There was a fight between security company employees and demonstrators. During the demonstrations in the area where the project in Zvernec was planned to be built, a fight broke out between the private security company employees guarding the area and the demonstrators on May 30. The pepper gas fired by the security guards affected both the demonstrators and the police in the area. The security company announced that some of its employees were suspended from duty.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his statement after the events that “the project is progressing in accordance with all legal and environmental procedures.” Meanwhile, it is stated that the cost of the project, which is stated to be linked to Kushner, will be approximately 4 billion dollars.
